At Essex, we believe that what we build should go beyond business—it should make a meaningful impact in the communities around us.
That’s why being part of Camp Kindle’s new Treehouse Village is something we’re incredibly proud of.
A Place Designed for Joy and Healing
Camp Kindle, operated by Kids Cancer Care, provides a safe, supportive environment for children and families affected by cancer. For many of these kids, camp offers something truly special: a chance to just be kids again—away from treatments, hospitals, and the challenges they face every day.
Recently, Camp Kindle completed a major expansion and accessibility project, designed to improve capacity and create more inclusive, engaging spaces for campers. The project includes new program areas, improved facilities, and the addition of a unique, fully accessible treehouse village—designed to spark imagination, connection, and play.
Introducing the Essex Excavator Treehouse
The Essex Excavator Treehouse is a particularly meaningful part of the village for our team—not only because of what it represents, but because of how it came to life.
A portion of the funds raised at our Annual Essex Golf Classic was proudly directed toward this project, making it a true reflection of the support of our community, partners, and team.
Beyond that, several members of the Essex team had the unique opportunity to be directly involved in the design process. From early brainstorming sessions to shaping the final concept, there was a shared focus on one question: what would make this space as fun, imaginative, and memorable as possible for the kids who would use it?
Inspired by the equipment that drives our industry, the excavator theme quickly took shape—bringing with it bold ideas, playful features, and a sense of larger-than-life adventure. Every detail was considered with the camper experience in mind, with the goal of creating a space that would spark curiosity, creativity, and connection.
But more than its design, what matters most is how it’s used.
It’s a place where kids can explore, imagine, and simply be kids—where laughter replaces worry, even if just for a little while.

A Day We Won’t Forget
In May, members of our team had the opportunity to attend the grand opening of the Treehouse Village. Walking through the site and seeing the project come to life was meaningful—but nothing compared to seeing the kids experience it for the first time.
There was an undeniable sense of excitement in the air.
Kids climbed, explored, and played with pure joy and curiosity. For many, it was a moment of freedom—an opportunity to simply have fun, surrounded by others who understand their journey.

It was a powerful reminder of why this work matters.
Building More Than Business
The Treehouse Village is part of a broader effort to expand Camp Kindle’s reach and impact—helping more families access the support, community, and experiences they need. We’re honoured to have played a small role in bringing that vision to life.
At Essex, we’re committed to building more than just financial solutions—we’re committed to supporting the communities where we live and work.
And projects like this remind us what that truly looks like.
